Work At Home Job Scams

Internet work scams or work at home (legit) income online, is a form of an internet crime and hundreds fall for the moneyless offer of internet work every day. What is an internet crime? There are seven types recognized although any type of cyber crime is fairly new along with the prosecution of one found guilty. Spam, fraud, obscene content, harassment drug trafficking, cyber terrorism and cyber warfare are recognized by the FBI as crimes that can be prosecuted, but very difficult to prove with all of the hacking material that provides the offender to cloak their tracks. So your best defense is to know what is a real legitimate job offer online and those other offers that are not so legit.

I traveled this road myself off and on for about a year. Gullible to the empty promises, countless survey sites, promising the simplicity of earning money even while you sleep. The last thing on my mind was sleep, for just to register to one "money making site" felt like the only way to earn money was donating an egg, or handing over my first born.

How To Recognize A Job Scam

General rule for recognizing a job scam, you should never have put up checking or credit card info. If "work at home" company offers a one time fee for even a dollar trial, click off the page and immediately unsubscribe. I can't tell you how many hours I wasted reading their bogus web page, watching their testimonies of "other" members earning thousands of dollars in their first month.

If you give the company any type payment for a trial period you need to realize that the trial period is a dollar day for two weeks, and most times you will have to fight them tooth and nail to cancel the membership after your trial period ends. So instead of configuring a dollar for a "risk free" trial at minimum you can spend up to $100 dollars in the first month and make no profit. Even if the company guarantees a full refund it may take up to a month to get your money back and even longer to recover from spending you did not have in the first place.

Members, that is a word in a job offer to steer clear of when looking for work online. Usually with any membership there is a fee to join. From my job experience, whenever hired, I was never asked to cough up one dime upon hire, and if there was uniform costs, it came out of my paycheck at a reasonable rate. Think about that for a minute, have you ever had to pay anything up front upon hire in the outside world? And if you did or ever asked to, I would think twice about working for the company.

Look For "Legit" Money Sites

Yes the websites that claim "legit" online work income are apart of the internet scams. If you are familiar with the lingo that many online companies use to reel you in, then you already are aware of the wording tactics applied to lure in potential buyers.

What are you buying anyway? When a company requires a purchase before profit, ask yourself why? Then ask them why, and then again. Chances are they do not have an email or a source of contact to directly deal with. This is another red flag to look for. Multiple websites that keep directing you to the same company is another sign of a work at home scam. Even the negative reviews about the company.

Here's how it works:

They set up the main attraction page, a big banger of a deal and offer. If this doesn't reel you in to buy then what they do is build 5 other "puppet" sites, these can be blogs or even appear as a legit Mr. Joe's website stating his progress and how he now earns enough money to support his family of five. Then somewhere in the site you will see a link that will lead you back to the first banger website. These "puppet" sites may also include testimonials from people stating their success but pay attention to the pictures of the people, there are generic avatars. There was one site that used the same photos of people with different names.

The Day of Redemption | A Victim's Memoir

After countless hours I will never get back of scouring my junk emails, my last hurrah's attempt to find a legit ' "work at home get rich while you sleep offer" was my last. I spent over two hours applying and watching videos all the while promised it was free. This ground breaking new software that was going to make me and my family live happily ever after. I admit it, I believed, I wanted someone out there in cyber space really be trustworthy and give us middle class a chance at that white picket fence. Needless to say, at the very end....through my watery eyes filled with hope, I only needed to pay the incredible deal of 49.95 to help keep the soft ware going. I was floored, more than that, hurt and betrayed for the last time.

So what was my first reaction? I emailed that s.o.b and gave it to him. I said all the things you may be feeling if you have already been down this road plus I threw in a few F-bombs to accentuate my disgust. I told that slime bag if this was the new million dollars club, then he could cough up the effin money himself. I did get one reply back, stating I must be confused with the incredible offer given to me. Given? Really did he just say that! Well if my first email wasn't hateful enough, then I am sure you can imagine the second. So far there has not been a reply, or restraining order delivered to my door. I still keep the bat by my bed, oh yea, I gave it to that guy and his website.

How To Earn Money With Internet Work .

I felt compelled to write about this, so maybe others would be on the defense to this new wave tactic of scamming. Some of these sites almost resemble the pyramid scheme, you pay $9.95 for a membership, build a website, set the trap promising training kits to give the inside curve how to make the money one desires, then some other hopeless soul clicks to join and you get the commission. I am sorry, I think you, the reader, have far better attributes in this life than that.

If it sounds to good to be true, guess what. Just think of online jobs as you would any other job, you are going to put in at least 40 hours a week for a full time position. It is going to take work, and as much as you put in over time you will get that back, and maybe even more. The greatest advice to success I have heard is, do what you love and find a way to make a living out of it. Take advantage of search engines they are like your personal human resource guide. They have all the research right at your finger tips, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Don't get me wrong there are good income enhancement opportunities out there, but keep in mind it is going to remind you of a search and rescue mission in the Sahara desert and you just ran out of water. It can get frustrating, and in the beginning you may spend 10 to even 14 hours a day hammering away just educating yourself on all the options of income out there, and researching if it is legit, but everyday will get easier, smoother. One last piece of advise: Take notes, write down all the websites, links, and research you have compiled, these guys are sneaky, changing email addresses, different domain subtitles, perplexing back offers and probably more since writing this. Scams are a form of internet crimes, and fraudulent offers claiming to make easy money from home is just as much as a scam as the telecommunication companies that call your home phone.

I actually understand your frustration because I to have been a victim of those scams. One in particular broke my heart recently. I weas searching on craigslist, like I always do, looking for a job. I sent out a few emails with my resume attached hoping to get some potential prospects. I recieved an email from one lady claiming that she could not meet with me in person because she was out of the country, but she asked me to send her my name and address so that she could send my a cashiers check because she needed me to do some errands for her such as buying toys for orphaned kids and sending them to orphanages. Things along those line.

of course I was very dubious but I obliged. a few days later I recieved a cashiers check for a little over 3000 dollars. I lost my job and was struglling to pay bills so I was excited that she did decide to pay me up front. Of course I planned on doing exactly what she needed me to do once I comunicated with her again.

well as I went to cash the check. I was finally told that it was a fraudulant check and I could not cash it. I was very disappointed but also very worried because I did try to cash it. I didnt want to get in trouble for this check now. I just don't understand why in the world would anyone do something like that. I was very hurt and distraught.

Nice hub

Ah... was it a post office cashier's check? That is a red flag from the start. If anyone sends a check like that, take it straight to the post office to verify and it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring the email stating they are sending a check.

I am truly sorry you were scammed. She was trying to get you to reply thru email to snag your info. Once you reply to the email they are able to get your info. Now think about it....She has your legal name, phone number, and address, plus your email info. Craigslist is a s.o.b. about these kind of emails. That website is HORRIBLE for scams.

Jenubouka, this was an awesome, interesting, useful hub. I tagged it funny because I had to giggle hilariously at your giving it to the guy and his website! Bravo to you. I also followed the work at home trail, I am still on it, but a little smarter I hope.

@ whispers of faith, be careful of the check sent in the mail. I worked as a Probation/Parole Specialist and saw many a case prosecuted because the victim, always female, cashed a useless check. Be very careful! :)

I was on Craigslist looking for jobs, too, but didn't find anything here in Las Vegas except jobs that made me write a funny hub about the jobs available here! :) Thanks for the information, though, I will be very careful using that site for job searching! Voted "up" and "useful!" Great hub!

Thank you KathyH! I have emailed craigslist numerous times about the "phishing" and bogus emails. Watch for the re-posting ads for a resource web group too. It can get you banned from posting on CL.

Good luck out there.

to feel so close, yet so far. Money hauges over you, unlike a cloud it the sky, for a cloud in the you can harshly wave away into dust, but a year well you can't swape away to dust, you can only wish for a hope so deep in your mind that is to hard to find, you can try to maddly shove it away but it is just a trip in the road. I understand it.

Thank you Jenbouka for this hub. You can end up so suspicious and pessimistic about EVERTHING once you've been 'got' which is such a shame as suspicion does not make for pleasant communities.

jenubouka profile image

jenubouka Hub Author 7 months ago

Exactly. Its a shame that there are people and companies that thrive their existence and profits off of genuine people in need of employment and money. Only one out of 60 opportunities offered online are legit. This is a sad thing.

I have been around awhile. I hear what you are saying and you say it well. I am putting some effort into this venue as are you and these others. I am not depending on revenue generated through ads, but we'll see how that goes. This seems like a good place to showcase one's wares and yours are substantial.

Thank you WD Curry 111,

I though pounding the pavement for a job was hard but finding legit online work takes the cake. I guess it is all about finding your niche in life and convince enough (alot)of others to follow.

That's right. There is no easy money. I haven't even started my account yet. I may be losing money, but not much. I think this is a good concept and appreciate the opportunity to set up shop here. I have been hip since hip was hep. This is a job opportunity. You never know when you'll hit the right combination of factors and accomplish something. I believe the value of this medium is much more than adsense (a bonus). I am an old billboard artist. I know this game. It's one thing to sell a sign (advertisement) it's another to give the public a work of art for the money you collect from the customer.

jenubouka profile image

jenubouka Hub Author 6 months ago

I never looked at it that way WD, great concept. My analysis with adsense is to get a magic eight ball and keep it buy your computer, that or a surfboard because you ride many waves of hot trends to write in order for ads to pay.

I agree there are many values to this and if one solely comes for profit they will lose much more that is offered here.

Well done article jenubouka! Thank you. I am on to those scams, and am very careful, especially because I am unemployed and need a job. I get emails all the time telling me there's a job for me, and they ask for my information...I just delete those.
